Also named “bwadi bwa” This is a Songye Luba Kifwebe society animal mask from the Ankoro region .
About those type of mask Hersack 1985:46-50. States that the mask is called ‘ngulungu' (antelope), because its stripes and patterns imitate the antelope Tragelaphus scriptus, which also has a broad dark stripe down its nose. The antelope is said to be tough, strong, pugnacious and even dangerous, just like kifwebe.
