A Lobi iron bird


A fine Lobi iron bird on stand, provenance Todd M Zieseniss Tribal Gatherings.

This Lobi iron sculpture was made by a blacksmith with hand hammered iron.
The Bird is naturally weathered and eroded, and a quite elegant and a wonderful example of the Lobi blacksmith skills.
The Lobi peoples live in Burkina Faso, West Africa.
The sculpture itself measures 35 cm (14 inches) tall x 28cm (11 inches) deep. Sold on a custom wood made stand.
Estimated age: mid-XXth.

It represents a helmeted guinea fowl (Numida meleagris)
