The Fali dolls are not only beautiful, but also meaningful.
They are decorated with a lot of beads, cowrie shells, seed pods and colorful glass beads.
These dolls are also part of a romantic tradition in Cameroon. A young Fali man makes a doll (ham pilu) for his bride-to-be and gives it the gender of his desired first child.
She carries the doll on her back until she has a real baby.
Then, the doll is stored away as a precious keepsake. This tradition is explained in the book
