African masks coming from known collection

"Whatever may be their age, the African Masks constitute by their variety and specially by their strange beauty one of the most marvelous plastic creations of humanity. The thousand year old dances which these artist people ceaselessly repeat every night by the shimmer of their fires, were the true school of their sculptors. The negro possesses to a high degree a sense of form and its necessary relation to life, the solid sense of the true sculptor. Without ever becoming entangled in the imaginative extravagances of the Polynesians, he knows how to make use of elements taken from nature whafrican artile remaining free to express his emotions directly in all his creations"

Charles Ratton, Masques Africains.

African Masks in David Norden's collection.

Masks comprise the better part of David Norden's collection and represent a wide range of types.

They were worn to endow the wearer with supernatural powers for the purposes of expressing complex ideas involving the forces of fertility and protection, to become a member of a secret society, or for initition rites, funerary rituals, civil or religious ceremonies, instruction, or story-telling and masquerades. Others represented status.

See some of them below, learn about the meaning of these masks by clicking the links, and best part that you won't be able to do when visiting a Museum, you can get these masks on your wall and you'll get free delivery worldwide and  two weeks of money back guarantee.

Presentation TIP: You can put African Masks on the wall, but they will look more valuable by putting them on a stand. Quite often I include a stand with the mask.

Masks selected by me are always more than 50 years old and usually are coming from known collections, you will get free insured delivery and 15 days guarantee
